About Southbank Marina

Completed in 2008, Southbank Marina provides berthing for 40 boats in a commercial setting on the Forth and Clyde canal.

With boat journey times of 2 hours 20 minutes to Glasgow (Maryhill Locks), and 3 hours 45 minutes to the Falkirk Wheel, the Marina is conveniently situated whether you are considering a permanent berth, are on a boating holiday looking for overnight, or are transiting through the Forth and Clyde Canal looking to break up the journey.

The town of Kirkintilloch is bisected by the Canal.  With convenient access to all aspects of the town centre from the Marina, it is easy to see why the town is known as the Canal Capital of Scotland.

Southbank Marina is situated within Southbank Business Park which has been developed as part of a multi-million pound regeneration project.  The site is steeped in canal history including the former boat building yard of PW McGregor Ltd.  It was from this site that puffers, scows and a variety of other boats were built and dispatched around the world.

Southbank was also a former important rail terminal with the the Airdrie to Kirkintilloch line allowing both raw materials and finished goods to be received and dispatched from the Forth and Clyde Canal.

While the heritage of the site links closely to the Canal in its industrial heyday, the focus now is firmly on leisure activities.  With the planned development of a restaurant and pub, and the Kirkintilloch Arts and Cultural Centre adjacent to the Marina, Southbank is set to be a key leisure destination.

This is bourne out in August each year when Southbank Marina plays a key role in the festivities of the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival.
